Wouldn't it be great if in the closing hours of your life you could say as Paul did, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith?" I often think of an old song by the Hinson's, "He can." One verse goes like this,
"What can cause an old man who is about to say goodbye,
to lift up both of those dieing hands with a tear running from his eye,
with his loved ones gathered all around him he can smile and say have don't fear,
for the one who brought me through the storm is going to take me on from here?"
I have tried to not worry too much about what my children say about me now. I try to live a life concerned more with what they will say about me when I'm gone. If we want to be able to say that, (without arrogance but in thankfulness to him) we might consider Paul's attitude.
