Kids

Any words that make a small child smile
Are socially acceptable verbal attire
For proper decorum that makes a kid giggle
Try weird noises or making your ears wiggle

A comedian tries to write humorous material
Satirical observations of things we call normal
Hour after hour; thousands of pencil strokes
Is not as exhausting as knock knock jokes

It’s so hard to reason with a little guy
Who keeps saying, “I know you are but what am I?”
And just try to get the last word in
When your daughter repeats your words again

Groggy, half awake, you put your foot in your shoe
Only to find out it’s a garage for a Hot Wheels car too
Then there’s baseball games, dance class and soccer
No wonder people whisper, “He’s off his rocker.”

“High School Musical seemed just fine
Until I saw it for the fifteenth time
Trivial pursuit would be much more fun
If my teenager didn’t make me feel so dumb

At last! You’ve raised them,
They’re out on their own
Then the phone rings and you hear yourself say,
“Of course, you can come back home”

Dennis Bazzell

There is no time in life we learn more by example than when raising kids.  I have four children Jesse, Jonathan, Joseph and Julia;  all grown now.  In many ways I'm so glad the endless change of constant adventures is over.  But I have my memories.  Memories that I wouldn't trade for anything.  I am now entering a time in life when I learn much more from them than they do from me, still, once in a while, I like to draw from my vast storage of wisdom a golden nugget of advice for which I'm sure they are eternally greatful.
