Common Sense asked Balaam,
“Why do you hit me with that stick”
Balaam answered, “I’m so angry if
I had a sword I’d kill you quick
When I say get up you lay down
When I say go forward you mess around.”
“Well,” asked Common Sense continuing his repertoire,
“Maybe you could see some things that you can not see anymore.
Stop a minute; ask yourself, “hasn’t Common Sense always delivered me before?”
“It’s true’ said Balaam, “You have been submissive and obedient for years
I never had to beat you or even twist and chew your ear.”
Is it possible,” inquired Common Sense,
“We no longer see eye to eye?
You cannot not see the obvious;
if I acquiesce you will die.
“Have you
forgotten,
Common Sense,
that I am a prophet of the Lord
And you a stupid animal that cannot say a word?”
I know you are not impressed much with an animal’s eloquence
But consider you are talking to your mute donkey, Common Sense.
Balaam said, “I must admit I did not take this into consideration
Anger caused me not to perceive the oddness of this situation”
Balaam’s eyes were opened and saw the angel of the Lord
Ready to loose the fateful lightening
of his terrible swift sword
As far as I know
Common Sense never spoke again
If you listen intently a message God will send
The voice says it is madness to run greedily after reward
Blinded by things you want, when you already have the Lord
